I ♥ Faces Contest, Week 29 :: At the Beach

Monday, July 27, 2009 | |

I Heart Faces, in true summertime spirit, is asking for pictures At The Beach. Before we do that, let's have a quick geography lesson: Fort Hood, Texas is located nearly at the geographic center of the largest state in the Lower 48. Yes, Texas has coastline. Yes, Texas has beaches. No, none of them are within an hour (or three hours) drive of me. So this challenge was a challenge!

I had to go deep into the archives, all the way back to February 2007, when I was new to digital photography. We were in Puerto Rico visiting my in-laws, who also live in the geographic center of an island! We made a thirty minute stop by a beach one day when we ventured to the coast from the mountains. In our excitement to expose our daughter to all nature has to offer, we didn't consider the possibility the water would be chilly...in February.

I ♥ Faces Contest, Week 28 :: Feet

Monday, July 20, 2009 | |

Strange times at I Heart Faces, as we concentrate on feet, not faces! But these understated body parts, in light of their excessively usefulness, need a day in the spotlight...and today is their day.

This picture was taken over a year ago, yet my daughter still persists in squishing her growing feet into the beloved froggy boots. It might just be time to head back to Target and get the next size up...

Cameras, Baseball and Cotton Candy

Saturday, July 18, 2009

It is July and it is hot. So hot my typical photography fervor has slowed, as I find the weight of my camera too much to bear. We attended a Round Rock Express Minor League baseball game, sat through 8 innings and finally called it quits right when the Express made a shocking 7th inning comeback to take the lead. Did they win? I was too hot and sweaty to care. I took a sum total of 46 images over that two hour stretch and I share the four best here. As you will see, my daughter is honing her skills and will be put to work shortly as my assistant.

Carnival :: Fort Hood Photographer

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

I finally went to a carnival with my camera in hand. As a pregnant woman, I had no illusions of riding anything, so I knew I would at last have my opportunity to take cool pictures of antiquated rides, flashing lights, bold colors. Alas, my opportunity lasted a mere hour due to the 100+ degree weather. Oh, and this was no ordinary carnival. This was a military event, so there were, of course, military exhibits. Of which the Paladin was the finest. But I may be biased...

I ♥ Faces Contest, Week 27 :: Sports and Pets

Monday, July 13, 2009 | |

Wow, the summer just took all my time! And I missed two weeks of I Heart Faces. Unacceptable. Surprising. It even had my mom concerned about my well-being. No fears...I was just busy with all the things summer entails...like entertaining children who don't have school all day...

Nevertheless, I am back in the saddle and ready to participate in Week 27 of this amazing photography contest: Sports in Action and Pets. Click the button below to check out other entries and perhaps, enter some yourself!

Family and more family :: Central Texas Family Photographer

Tuesday, July 07, 2009 | |

Over the holiday weekend, I was invited to commemorate a family reunion. The family tree branched off from six siblings...and resulted in an incredible group of people with whom it was a pleasure to work. Everyone smiled upon demand, many heckled those who were being photographed, and I think we managed to preserve this rare gathering of over 50 family members. Enjoy the sneak peek! (I tried hard to make sure everyone appears at least once in the sampling below. If I omitted anyone, my sincere apologies!)

Ah, youth... :: Central Texas Senior Portrait Photographer

Sunday, July 05, 2009 | |

I asked if she was excited or nervous for her senior year. She quickly said excited. But admitted to a touch of nervousness. And then, to get to the truth of it, she said, "I hope it just goes slowly." The best times never go slowly enough, but I have every confidence this young woman will know to savor this coming year, as she finishes her high school career and moves on into life. And she will do it all with her beautiful smile. See for yourselves!

Not one, but two beautiful girls in this family! How could the camera not love this pair?

A boy and his sister :: Harker Heights Children's Photographer

Thursday, July 02, 2009

When you are almost 15, you don't necessarily want to hang out with your three year old sister. But some boys are just loving and kind and exceedingly patient. The smiles between these two say it all. (Oh, and the weird duck at the end? How could I not include it?!)
